The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities approved a service that would display on a small device attached to the phone the telephone numbers of incoming callers. The board allowed New Jersey Bell to test its Call Identification feature for two years in Atlantic City and Hudson County, a densely populated area across the Hudson River from New York City. Call Identification should be available in November to the 194,000 customers in the trial area, at a cost of $6.50 a month.
