A 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of killing an elderly man during a June 24 burglary in Louisiana, a police spokeswoman said Friday.
Maureen Thomas said that John Gene Simon was arrested this week at an apartment on West Myrtle Street.
She said Simon is accused of fatally stabbing an 84-year-old man who walked in on a burglar at his home in Lake Charles on June 24. Thomas said investigators in Lake Charles told Santa Ana police that Simon had apparently returned to Orange County.
Simon is being held at the Orange County Jail after refusing extradition to Louisiana. Thomas said he would remain there until a formal extradition hearing is held.
