Montana May Miss Raider Exhibition
ROCKLIN, Calif. — Quarterback Joe Montana of the San Francisco 49ers may miss Saturday night’s exhibition game against the Raiders at the Coliseum, Coach Bill Walsh said Thursday.
Montana strained a ligament near his sternum in the 20-7 win over Kansas City Saturday, then aggravated the injury in practice Wednesday when he collided with running back Terrence Flagler.
“Montana may or may not play,” Walsh said. “If this were a league game, he certainly would play. We won’t make a decision probably until just prior to game time.”
Walsh said that if Montana did not start, Steve Young would start and play three quarters, followed by Bob Gagliano.
