ATLANTA — A man with a hand grenade in his duffel bag set off alarms at Hartsfield International Airport today, prompting the evacuation of hundreds of passengers from the security area and delaying some flights. The grenade turned out to be disarmed and harmless.
Officers cleared passengers and employees from the terminal security area for about 25 minutes as a police SWAT team examined the nylon duffel bag, in which a security X-ray machine revealed a hand grenade. William Daniels, 45, of Atlanta, a former mental patient, was arrested.
