The atheist group founded by Madalyn Murray O’Hair filed a federal suit in Austin, Tex,. that seeks to strike the words “so help me God” from the oath taken by members of state court juries. O’Hair and her son, Jon Murray, president of the Society of Separationists, said they and members of their group have been deprived of jury duty for refusing to take the oath. O’Hair won the landmark 1963 Supreme Court case that resulted in the banning of prayer in public schools.
