Lady’s Secret Bolts During Saratoga Race

Lady’s Secret, horse of the year in 1986, bolted going to the first turn and was eased by jockey Chris McCarron during the first race Monday at Saratoga Race Track in New York, a move that led McCarron and trainer Jeff Lukas to suspect that the 5-year-old daughter of Secretariat may have lost interest in racing.
“I don’t know what happened,” McCarron said. “She just bolted, unexplainedly, into the first turn. I don’t know what’s wrong with her. She acted like she wanted to go back to the barn instead of being out on the race track.”
Lady’s Secret, the all-time money-winning mare with earnings of $3,021,421, did not appear injured.
“It would be premature to say her career is over,” Lukas said. “Those decisions will have to made later. It’s a difficult situation.”
