THE HAGUE, Netherlands — Queen Beatrix left a hospital in The Hague today after almost a week of treatment for viral meningitis, a royal spokesman announced.
Beatrix walked to a court limousine and was driven to her Huis ten Bosch palace from the Bronovo hospital shortly after 10:30 a.m., spokesman Fred Loertzer said. She will remain there “for further recovery,” he said.
All her public appearances have been canceled for the time being. Loertzer said there was no immediate word how long she must convalesce until she can resume a full schedule.
The 49-year-old queen was flown to the Netherlands from the French Riviera city of Nice last Wednesday and rushed to the hospital after a preliminary diagnosis of meningitis. She had become ill while on a boating trip aboard the yacht of Dutch beer magnate Alfred Heineken.
