Marine Sgt. Clayton J. Lonetree told investigators that he received $3,500 from the Soviets, but wavered on whether he had given secrets to Soviet agents, a naval investigator testified. Naval Investigative Service Special Agent Thomas Brannon, testifying in the seventh day of Lonetree’s espionage court-martial, said Lonetree reported that he received the cash “for nothing.” “At the time, he told me . . . that some of the information he passed was classified but they (Soviets) already knew it and he confirmed it,” Brannon said.
