Three members of the junior judo team from the Santa Monica Judo Jujitsu Kai (school) won titles and four others finished third in their divisions in the U.S. Judo Assn.’s junior national championships at San Diego.
Those taking first places were Mandy Nieto in the girls age 6 and younger division, Juan Guerra, boys 8 lightweights, and Gerry Aquino, boys 9-10 heavyweights.
Third-place awards went to David Gates, boys 9-10 lightweights; Mira Lenzini, girls 9-10 lightweights, and Paul Fanning, boys 11-12 heavyweights.
Among other contestants from the Santa Monica school, fifth place went to Freemont Grant, boys 13-14 middleweights, and Heidi Seibold, girls 9-10 heavyweight, and a sixth to Whitney Seibold, boys 9-10 middleweights.
