Retarded Man Executed in La.
United Press International
ANGOLA, La. — John Brogdan, a mentally retarded child-killer, was executed in the electric chair early today despite pleas by his attorney that it was cruel and unusual punishment to kill a man with such an immature mind.
Brogdan, 25, was executed for the rape, torture, and murder of an 11-year-old Luling girl in October, 1981. Attorneys for Brogdan, a special-education dropout who never held a steady job, said he was too mentally immature to fully understand the consequences of his actions.
