Head-On Crash Kills Canoga Park Cyclist
A Canoga Park man driving a motorcycle died late Tuesday in Calabasas after a head-on collision with a car whose driver swerved into the motorcyclist’s lane, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The accident occurred as the motorcyclist, Jonathan Mark Hayward, 25, was traveling east on Calabasas Road east of Park Granada Boulevard shortly after 9 p.m., CHP Sgt. Sean Barrett said.
Hayward was struck by a car driven by Francesca Michelle Marks, 30, of Newbury Park, Barrett said. Marks, who was driving west on Calabasas Road, turned into the oncoming lane, apparently in the mistaken belief that it also was a westbound lane, he said.
The collision threw Hayward onto the pavement, causing severe head injuries, the sergeant said. Hayward was not wearing a helmet, he said.
Marks was not injured, Barrett said. She was not charged, but an investigation is continuing, he said.
