Buena Park : Man Held in Shooting of Son After Argument

A man was booked into County Jail after he allegedly shot his son in the alley behind their home during an argument over money Monday night. Using a small-caliber handgun, Frank D. Mendiola, 45, reportedly fired one round at his 18-year-son, Patrick, hitting the youth in the right leg, said Police Officer Rich McMillen.
Patrick Mendiola was taken to West Anaheim Hospital and treated for a surface wound and later released.
After arresting Frank Mendiola on suspicion of attempted murder, police searched his home in the 7700 block of 10th Street and found several rifles, handguns and a pipe bomb. The Sheriff’s Department bomb squad was then called to disarm the device.
