Current members of Congress have received more than $13 million in the past six years from political action committees connected with the nuclear industry, a liberal group concerned about nuclear safety said. The U.S. Public Interest Research Group said 29% of the money went to members of four House and Senate subcommittees with jurisdiction over nuclear power issues. Sen. Pete Wilson (R-Calif.) topped the list of recipients with $169,715, according to PIRG. The group released its analysis in connection with the scheduled House vote this week on renewal of a bill to limit the liability of the nuclear industry and the federal government for accidents.
