NCAA Final Four Teams Receive $1,056,027 Each

MISSION, Kan. — Schools and conferences, led by the Big East with $3,801,697, shared $26,189,456 from the net revenues of this year’s National Collegiate Athletic Assn. men’s basketball tournament.
Champion Indiana and the other Final Four participants--Nevada Las Vegas, Syracuse and Providence--each received $1,056,027, the NCAA said.
The Big Ten Conference, with six teams in the tournament, received $3,379,286. The Southeastern Conference and the Atlantic Coast Conference, also with six teams in the field, got $2,956,874 and $2,323,257, respectively.
Payments to teams that lost in the tournament’s first round were $211,205. Second-round losers got $422,410, regional semifinal losers $633,616 and regional final losers $844,821.
The 1987 tournament had a record paid attendance of 654,-744, and the gross receipts of $49,092,205, also a record, was 19.3% above the previous year, the NCAA said.
Of the receipts, 74.6% came from television rights, 21.6% from ticket sales, 2% from radio rights and 1.8% from other sources, the NCAA said.
