United Telecom posted a $118.27-million loss for the second quarter, compared to earnings of $56.24 million for the year-ago period. The Kansas City, Mo., company blamed the loss on a one-time charge representing a reduction in the value of US Sprint’s older transmission systems, an increase in a provision for uncollectible customer accounts and US Sprint’s operating losses.
