Armco and National Steel reported turnarounds in second-quarter earnings from losses posted last year. Parsippany, N.J.-based Armco said second-quarter profit totaled $36.2 million, compared to a loss of $384.7 million in the year-ago period. National Steel Corp., a privately held company based in Pittsburgh, recorded second-quarter profit of $18.4 million, compared to a loss of $4.6 million last year. Both companies said the gains resulted from stronger demand for steel.
