All-Star Game Hits New Low in TV Ratings

Tuesday night’s All-Star game on NBC-TV drew a national Nielsen rating of 18.2, the lowest ever for a prime-time All-Star game. The all-time high was a 28.5 for the 1970 game. Last year’s game drew a 20.3.

The rating for Tuesday night’s game, which the National League won, 2-0, in 13 innings, began dropping late in the game. According to an NBC spokesman, the game peaked between 7:30 and 8 p.m, when the rating was a 20.1. During the subsequent half-hour periods, the rating dropped to 19.2, then 17.9 and finally 16.7.

The average size of the audience was estimated at 45 million.
