U.S. Judge Clears Relief Ship

MIAMI — A famine relief ship carrying 8,000 tons of food bound for Mozambique and Jordan won permission to leave Port Everglades today, after legal wrangles kept it sitting at anchor for three months.
The 416-foot Porto Coroni was loaded with food donated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the World Vision relief organization and the United Nations, said Graham Bott, president of Tampa-based Afram Lines. U.S. District Judge Alcee Hastings lifted a federal seizure order after the owners agreed to post a $65,000 bond against outstanding claims.
