Portrait of Durants

The wonderful article by Diane Kanner (May 24) about Ariel and Will Durant brought back many fond memories. I had the privilege of meeting the Durants when my husband, Robert, was commissioned to do their portrait in 1970.
After spending a lovely afternoon with them, we asked to what they attributed their long and happy life.
Will answered, “something to do, someone to love and something to look forward to.” Such a simple philosophy but one that we will always remember.
I have enclosed a black-and-white photo of the portrait which was executed in this fashion because they were two distinct personalities merged as one great author.
