Candlelight Protest Vigil Scheduled

The Southern California Coalition for Reproductive Freedom will hold a candlelight protest vigil from 8 to 11:30 p.m. today in the alley behind 1337 Santa Monica Place mall in Santa Monica.
The event will call attention to Gov. George Dukmejian’s 1987-88 state budget, which eliminates most Medi-Cal funding for abortions.
According to a spokesmen for the group, the alley site was chosen as symbolic of where poor women might be forced to seek abortions unless the state Supreme Court declares the anti-abortion language in the budget unconstitutional.
