LAS VEGAS — A crude bomb was found in a fireproof stairwell at a 1,000-room hotel and casino but was detonated without threat to the visitors or building, authorities said.
The bomb found Sunday by security officers at the Union Plaza Hotel and Casino was described as an electrical device in a jar of gunpowder.
“It was dangerously put together and it could have caused a lot of damage,” police Officer Don Pierce said.
Police said the hotel received no telephone threats.
