Despite his avowed wish to take the money and “give it to the Little Sisters of the Poor,” U.S. District Judge Jim Carrigan ruled in Denver that art dealer Jacques Michel and antique trader Charles Angelucci must split the profits realized when a William Merritt Chase oil, purchased for $500, was resold for $410,000. “Unfortunately, I can’t play Solomon and split the painting down the middle,” the judge said Friday after hearing testimony by Angelucci alleging he put up half of the painting’s purchase price--testimony that Michel vehemently denied.
