Fountain Valley : Couple Arrested; Police Say Cocaine Was in Car
A couple were arrested Friday after a policeman who stopped their car on the San Diego Freeway found a kilogram of cocaine and a loaded handgun in the trunk, a police spokesman said.
Police Sgt. Larry Griswold said Sgt. Lee Pepka stopped a Cadillac on the freeway at Talbert Avenue at 12:49 a.m. for allegedly having expired registration tags.
Griswold said the officer found a small amount of a powdery substance believed to be cocaine and asked to search the trunk, where he found 2.2 pounds of the substance and a loaded .38-caliber revolver.
He said Tony Frank Testa, 44, and Darla Jean Schlarb, 25, both of Costa Mesa, were booked into County Jail on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for sale and possession of a loaded handgun. Bail was set at $250,000 each.
