Boy on Bike Killed by Truck Near Home
A 7-year-old Van Nuys boy was killed about two blocks from his home Friday when he rode his bicycle into the path of a truck, police said.
Jason Leigh Dusatko was riding his bicycle in front of an apartment building in the 13800 block of Oxnard Street when he rode from the driveway of the building out into the street, Los Angeles Police Lt. Alan Kerstein said. Witnesses told police he was immediately struck by a three-quarter-ton truck traveling west at about 30 to 35 m.p.h.
The boy was pronounced dead at St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank about an hour after the accident, which occurred at 6:45 p.m., Kerstein said.
The driver of the truck, Ernest Simmons, 44, of Burbank, was not cited.
