The Rev. Robert Schuller’s plan to construct an $18-million family center next to the Crystal Cathedral is scheduled to come before the City Council Monday.
The proposal, which calls for demolishing an 84-unit low-income apartment to clear land for the project, has been approved by the city Planning Commission. Michael Nason, a spokesman for Schuller, said the minister plans to attend Monday night’s council meeting.
“We’re encouraged after the Planning Commission gave it unanimous approval. We’re hopeful it will be approved by the City Council,” Nason said.
The project includes construction of a 234-foot-high crystal tower and a five-story Family Life Center.
