CBS news anchor Dan Rather won’t be reporting from the 13th world economic summit in Venice tonight , according to the Washington Post. Rather will anchor from New York and several correspondents--Bill Plante, Terrence Smith, Jacqueline Adams and Ray Brady--will file reports from the summit. The paper reported the scheduling was decided during a CBS executive meeting and Rather stormed out after being told he wouldn’t be sent to Venice. But CBS News President Howard Stringer told the Post he had planned to give Rather all of next week off after tough trips to the Soviet Union (Rather worked on “The Soviet Union Seven Days in May,” set to air June 24) and a documentary trek around the Pacific Northwest.
