Mavericks, Bucks Name Coaches

John MacLeod, former coach of the Phoenix Suns, was named Thursday to replace Dick Motta as coach of the Dallas Mavericks. The deal was completed with an informal handshake contract similar to the one Motta worked under for the Mavericks’ first seven seasons, team spokesman Kevin Sullivan said.
MacLeod, fired in February during his 14th season with Phoenix, canceled a scheduled interview with the New York Knicks, who are also looking for a coach.
