Downey : Award for Imperial School
Imperial Elementary School in the Downey Unified School District is scheduled to receive a state award for overall performance during a ceremony Friday at the Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles, a State Department of Education spokesman said.
Imperial is one of 248 elementary schools statewide slated to receive state Schools Supt. Bill Honig’s Distinguished Schools Award, said spokesman D.J. Peterson. California has more than 4,500 elementary schools.
Earlier this year, the department recognized Imperial as one of California’s top two schools in the education of low-achieving students. And Imperial was one of three California schools to be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education last month for its Chapter 1 program for low-achieving pupils.
