Chatsworth High, Birmingham Win City Tennis Playoffs

Chatsworth High and Birmingham won their City Section 4-A quarterfinal tennis matches Tuesday behind the strong play of their doubles teams. Chatsworth scored a 21 1/2-8 win over University. Birmingham defeated El Camino Real, 15 1/2-14.
Chatsworth’s No. 2 doubles team of Mark Swartz and Tony Oestoing won its three matches, defeating University’s No. 3 team of Dean Weinstock and Eric Schwab, 6-3; the No. 2 team of Jeremy Mayer and Joe Kim, 6-1; and the No. 1 team of Carl Peterson and William Brown, 7-5.
Rony Monatlik and Oren Wolk, Chatsworth’s No.1 and No.2 singles players, each won three of four matches.
Birmingham’s No. 1 doubles team, brothers Scott and Bobby Saltzman, and its No. 2 doubles team, brothers Jeff and Gary Rosenfield, each won 2 of 3 sets.
In singles play, Loren Gesas won three sets and Greg Shanfeld and Sebastian Matkanski won two sets each for Birmingham.
