PARIS — Boris Becker, Mats Wilander and Miloslav Mecir advanced to the semifinals of the French Open today with a trio of straight-set victories.
Becker, the second seed from West Germany, ousted American veteran Jimmy Connors 6-3, 6-3, 7-5. In Friday’s semifinal, Becker will meet Wilander, the No. 4 seed from Sweden who was overpowering in eliminating the last French hope, sixth-seeded Yannick Noah, 6-4, 6-3, 6-2. Mecir, the No. 5 seed from Czechoslovakia, was just as overwhelming after a shaky resumption of his match against unseeded Karel Novacek, winning 7-6, 6-1, 6-2. He will play top-seeded Ivan Lendl, the defending men’s champion, in the semifinals.
