17 Held for Thefts at London Airport
LONDON — Seventeen baggage loaders at London’s Heathrow Airport were arrested Tuesday in a widening investigation into thefts of passengers’ luggage, police said.
Last week, police arrested 23 British Airways baggage handlers and charged them with conspiracy to steal items from passengers’ baggage.
Police said they detained four men as they reported for work and seized the other 10 in dawn raids in their homes. All 17 were employed by British Airways.
The arrests followed a police surveillance operation by officers posing as airline staff members who secretly filmed aircraft being loaded using video cameras hidden in the holds of parked jets.
