Thailand’s best-known television journalist says he’s been banned from reading news on the air because of his coverage of politicians critical of Prime Minister Prem Tinsulanonda’s government. Somkiat Onvimol said in Bangkok on Monday that a cabinet minister told him last week that a senior government official had ordered the gag. Somkiat, who last year introduced lively innovations to his newscasts that were copied by Thailand’s four other government news programs, said he would stay off the air indefinitely.
