Nancy Lieberman of the Long Island Knights, who was placed on the injured-reserve list prior to Saturday night’s United States Basketball League game against Rhode Island, walked off at halftime after spending the first half on the bench in uniform.
Lieberman, the only woman in the USBL, said she had been suffering from a virus, but was capable of playing. She said team officials “strong-armed me into not playing” so that they could activate another player.
Stan Goldman, the club president, said the roster change was made because it was understood that Lieberman was too sick to play.
Lieberman said she plans to return for Wednesday night’s home game against Philadelphia.
