Italy Pardons Woman Who Killed Addict Son

BASSIGNANA, Italy — President Francesco Cossiga has pardoned a 61-year-old woman convicted of killing her son after he refused to be treated for drug addiction, Italian newspapers reported Sunday.
Franca Corti, a former schoolteacher, had been sentenced to eight years for shooting to death 27-year-old Elio Pronzato in January, 1984, after he told her he decided not to enter a drug treatment program.
On her first full day of freedom Saturday, the Rome newspaper La Repubblica said Corti visited her son’s grave and left a bouquet of flowers.
