Intelligence sources believe the Irish Republican Army plans a summer campaign of violence against selected targets in Britain, including Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, the Sunday Telegraph reported. In a front-page story, the London paper said the outlawed IRA’s prime target is Thatcher, who narrowly escaped death in October, 1984, when the IRA bombed a hotel in Brighton during the Conservative Party’s annual conference, killing five people. The unnamed sources said they believe that the IRA, fighting to end British rule in Northern Ireland, will strike after the June 11 election in the hope that security will be relaxed.
