The Justice Department began denaturalization proceedings against Jacob Tannenbaum, a 75-year-old Jewish man from Brooklyn who allegedly brutalized Jewish prisoners in a Nazi concentration camp. In a complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Brooklyn, the department’s Nazi-hunting unit said that Tannenbaum, a native of Poland, served from September, 1944, through May, 1945, as a supervisory “kapo”--an inmate overseer of other prisoners--at the Goerlitz concentration camp in what is now East Germany.
