Al Martinez Wins Columnist Honor
Al Martinez of The Times has been named among the nation’s top three essay columnists in 1986 by the National Society of Newspaper Columnists.
More than 200 columnists from throughout the United States competed in the contest.
Martinez, whose columns appear in both the Valley and Westside sections of The Times, placed second in balloting by members of the organization.
First place went to Erik Lacitis of the Seattle Times and third place to Jill Porter of the Philadelphia News.
