San Joaquin crop values grew 3.7% last year.
The valley’s gross crop values reached a record $8.1 billion, up nearly $294 million over 1985, according to statistics compiled by the Associated Press. The previous record of $7.94 billion was set in 1980, before farmers’ profits were squeezed by increasing costs, decreasing exports and chronic commodity surpluses.
