SIDON, Lebanon — Israeli jets attacked Palestinian guerrilla bases on the outskirts of this southern port city at daybreak today, and police said at least one civilian was killed and 12 people were wounded.
Four fighter-bombers blasted guerrilla bases around Sidon’s refugee camps of Ein el-Hilweh and Mieh Mieh in three bombing sorties, police said.
An Israeli army spokesman in Tel Aviv confirmed the raid but did not mention any casualties or give other details.
“The Israeli planes attacked terrorist headquarters southeast of the port of Sidon early this morning,” said the spokesman, who could not be identified in keeping with official practice. “All our planes returned safely.”
