Phinney, Davis Win Beverly Hills Bicycle Races
Olympian Davis Phinney edged teammate Tom Schuler Sunday in the Subaru Cycling Invitational through the streets of Beverly Hills.
Phinney, of Boulder, Colo., who recently won the Tour of Texas race, finished about 50 yards ahead of Schuler, from Wauwatosa, Wis. Paul McCormack of Dublin, Ireland, was third.
The leaders were even until Phinney pulled away with two laps remaining.
Bunky Davis, also of Boulder, won the women’s race, with Karen Bliss of State College, Pa., finishing second and Marianne Berglund, a Swedish Olympian now living in San Diego, coming in third.
Davis took the lead coming around the last two corners and held off Bliss by a length at the finish.
