Mt. St. Helens Hiking Trails to Reopen Today

VANCOUVER, Wash. — Mt. St. Helens is to be reopened to hikers today for the first time since a volcanic eruption seven years ago claimed 57 lives.
Climbing permits are free to all who request them through May 16; after that date, climbers will be limited to 100 each day, a forestry spokesman said.
