Jackie Robinson, Hero

Thank you for that very touching “Letters From a Very Human Hero Had Lessons for Life” by Gary Libman (April 6), about Jackie Robinson’s letters to Ron Rabinovitz. He is a very lucky young man being Jackie Robinson’s friend.
Back in 1939, I enrolled in UCLA, and I was lucky to see Jackie Robinson play football.
Jackie Robinson was a hero then to us. We--my husband and friends--were shocked when we read and heard that he had such a difficult time “breaking the color line” when he began to play baseball. We said, “What is it with ‘some people’--a UCLA graduate, an all-round athlete . . .?”
Thanks, Los Angeles Times, Gary Libman for writing “Jackie Robinson: Recalling a Legend,” and above all, thank you, Jackie Robinson.
