The U.S. hockey team was beaten for the fourth time in four games, this time by Finland, 5-2, in the World Championships in Vienna, Austria. Jimmy Carson of the Kings and Tom Kurvers of Buffalo scored for the United States after the Finns had taken a 5-0 lead.
The Soviet Union scored a major victory in defense of its title, beating Czechoslovakia, 6-1. Canada lost to West Germany, 5-3, and Sweden beat Switzerland, 12-1.
