United Education Profits Rise 15% in 4th Quarter
Encino-based United Education & Software reported a 15% higher profit on 120% higher sales for its fourth quarter ended Jan. 31, compared to the year-earlier period. The company said its net income was $397,000, or 13 cents a share, on sales of $13.4 million.
For the full year, United Education reported net income of $1.7 million, or 55 cents a share, an increase of 42% from the previous year. Sales reached $37 million, up 62% from the year earlier.
United Education owns trade and technical schools and runs correspondence courses. It also sells computer equipment for use in school administration offices and classrooms, and administers student loans.
Aaron Cohen, the company’s president, said sales were boosted by the acquisition of some schools last year as well as by internal growth. Its results were also aided by tax benefits stemming from previous losses.
