Cardinal Puts Vatican’s Worth at $560 Million

MILAN, Italy — The Vatican is worth about $560 million, excluding its artistic treasures, a senior cardinal was quoted as saying Wednesday.
Cardinal Giuseppe Caprio, president of the Prefecture of the Economic Affairs of the Holy See, gave the estimate in an interview with an Italian business newspaper. It was believed to be the first time an informed church official had made a public estimate of the Vatican’s value, although unofficial estimates have been similar.
