The Region : Boy Playing on Tracks Killed by Train
A 2-year-old boy was killed by a westbound freight train as he and a 4-year-old girl played along railroad tracks near their homes in Ontario. Police said Paul Anthony Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene near State Street and Palm Avenue; the girl was unhurt. Union Pacific engineer Steven Moore told police he saw the boy but was unable to stop the 22-car train, which was going about 35 m.p.h., in time. Police said there have been complaints in the past about children playing near the tracks.
