Orange County Community College Roundup : Saddleback Tops Cypress in Softball Behind Taylor
Patti Taylor pitched a one-hitter to lead Saddleback College to a 1-0 victory over Cypress Friday in an Orange Empire Conference softball game at Saddleback.
Taylor yielded only a ground-ball single up the middle to Chris Sharry in the second inning. Taylor, who had six strikeouts, is 22-2 overall and 10-2 in conference.
The Gauchos (11-3, 27-6) scored in the first on an RBI single by Debbie Hartwig.
In other Orange Empire Conference play:
Rancho Santiago 8, Orange Coast 2--Sandy Martinez was 1 for 3 with three RBIs, Lisa Peterson was 2 for 3 with one RBI and Terina Franklin was 1 for 2 with two RBIs for the first-place Dons (12-2, 19-7) at Rancho Santiago. Dawn Robertson (6-3) pitched six innings for the victory.
In Orange Empire Conference women’s swimming:
Orange Coast 79, Cypress 45--Tina Constable won the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 2 minutes 2.28 seconds to lead the Pirates to their 57th consecutive duel meet victory at Orange Coast.
In Orange Empire Conference men’s swimming:
Orange Coast 76, Cypress 36--Karl Stewart won the 1,000 freestyle (10:43.20) and the 200 backstroke (2:04.17), and Rob Laurie won the 200 butterfly (2:05.28) for the Pirates at Orange Coast.
In South Coast Conference volleyball:
Golden West 3, Mt. San Antonio 0--John Doan had 12 kills and Darren Utterback 10 as the Rustlers (8-5) defeated the Mounties, 15-5, 15-5, 15-9, at Golden West.
