Patients Flee VA Hospital After Torch Triggers Fire

NEW ORLEANS — Sparks from a workman’s torch triggered a fire that caused $750,000 in damage and forced the evacuation of 320 patients from a Veterans Administration hospital, officials said Friday. One patient died after reportedly suffering a heart attack during the evacuation Thursday.
