The World : Salvador Army Hits Rebels

Salvadoran army units clashed with leftist guerrillas in four provinces in a campaign to retaliate for the rebels’ attack on the El Paraiso garrison last week, in which 63 soldiers and a U.S. military adviser were killed and at least 60 other soldiers were wounded. Military sources said that about 10,000 government troops clashed with leftist insurgents in Chalatenango, Morazan, San Vincent and La Paz provinces. They said 10 rebels were killed, but there was no mention of government casualties.
