El Cajon
The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department is investigating an explosion and fire Wednesday at an El Cajon mobile home that officials suspect was being used as an illicit drug laboratory.
Investigators at the scene on Dehesa Road determined that the explosion was caused by hazardous chemicals being used as part of an illegal drug-processing facility, a Sheriff’s Department spokesman said.
The fire occurred at 3:02 p.m. Wednesday and caused $40,000 in damage. Firefighters from El Cajon and the California Department of Forestry put out the blaze.
Officials said there were no suspects in the case. A resident left the scene before officials arrived, the spokesman said.
